8.5 x 11" print with black frame. A medium-sized forest bird recognized by its mottled brown plumage, short crest, and fan-shaped tail with a dark subterminal band. Commonly found in mixed and deciduous woodlands, it relies on camouflage and rapid, explosive flight to evade predators. Known for its low-frequency “drumming” display rapid wingbeats that resonate through the forest during breeding season. Diet shifts seasonally, with buds, leaves, berries, and insects making up most of its forage.
